Department Timeline

February, 1896

Town Commissioners appointed twenty dollars to buy ladders in case of fires.

June 6, 1905

Town Marshall is instructed to gather all fire buckets, ladders, tools, etc. belonging to the town.

July 4, 1905

Hadley Peoples warehouse burned with a loss of $17,000.

December 22, 1907

The Highpoint Bending and Chair Company burnt with a loss of $6,000.

November 2, 1914

Wrights Restaurant caught fire and spread to the buildings to the south and east.

1925

The Siler City Fire Department was formed with Twelve Charter members.  The town also installed a public water system with fire hydrants.

October 1926

 

The Siler City Fire Department was formally organized with twenty three members. 

The towns first fire truck was delivered.

  Tom dark is elected chief of the Department.

 

February, 1927

The Department bought it’s first protective clothing – 12 raincoats.

1927

First Motorized Equipment was purchased – 1927 International Truck.

1940

New City Hall built including two bays for the Fire Department.

1942

Seagrave Pumper (hose 9) was purchased.

1953

International-Seagrave 500 GPM Pumper was purchased.

1955

Autocar 2,000 Gallon Tanker was purchased.

August, 1957

Telephone alert system was implemented with 5 phones installed for officers and drivers.

1960

First CB Radios were purchased for department use.

1961

Moved to present building.

1962

First Formal Fire Pumps School was taught at the Fire Department.

1963

First Quick Dump Tanker was purchased (1963 Dodge).

March, 1963

The Elder Theater was seriously damaged during a fire.

April, 1967

914 was purchased.

September, 1967

The Fire Department voted to form a fire insurance district 4 miles from the station.

1970s

First pagers were used.

August 28, 1973

912 was purchased.

May 7, 1975

Air 9 was purchased.

July 19, 1977

913 was purchased.

November, 1978

High Expansion Foam Unit was purchased.

September, 1981

2½ ton 1967 model Brush Truck was purchased.

February, 1985

County 911 system is implemented and Siler City is assigned Station #9.

June, 1988

Fire District is extended from 4 to 5 miles.

October 30, 1990

916 was purchased.

November 22, 1995

911 was purchased.

March 8, 1996

Brush 9 was purchased.

June 30, 1996

913 was refurbished.

August 17, 1998

Ladder 9 was purchased.

August 30, 1998

Old 914 Was donated to Guilford Technical 
Community College Fire Protection 
Technology Program

April 1 2001 Purchased Thermal Imager
October 11, 2004 Siler City hires its first fulltime firefighter, 
Mitch Dorsett.
July 7, 2006 Siler City purchases and places 
Hurst Extrication tools in service.
